Mathematical software (2010)
Universal mathematical programs
- Maple 14 and Mathematica 7 are the best universal mathematical environments
— they do everything.
Their difference is of personal favour only.
Maple has Fortran-like programming language while Mathematica offers sophisticated constructions.
Maple seems to be more reliable in numerical computations while Mathematica looks better in manipulations with symbolic expressions.
See more details on Maple here.
- Matlab 2010 is one of the best mathematical environments for extensive numerical computations.
- Microsoft Excel combined with Visual Basic is very functional multi-purpose tool if you need
no sophisticated mathematics.
- Origin 8.5 is one of the most widespread standalone tools for plotting functions and visualizing data.
